Easy Zentangle Art for KidsI have always loved created art with Zentangle designs. Zentangles are designs that include non-representative repeating patterns. You can do zentangle designs within a larger outline or combine them together on their own with no defined outline. What I love most about zentangle art is that It doesn’t have to be complicated to be beautiful. I taught this very concept to my son’s 2nd grade class when I did this easy zentangle art for kids project. Zentangle Art for Kids

Step 1. Start with the paper horizontal and use a Sharpie to draw three different sized hearts. Make sure the hearts are large enough to divide up and draw patterns within. I had the kiddos draw their hearts with pencil first in case we had to change the size.

Step 2. Next, add intersecting lines within each heart. Larger hearts can have more lines. The idea is to have different spaces that will each be filled with a design. Lines should be a mix of curved and straight. My hearts had 8-12 spaces when I was done adding lines.Zentangle Art for Kids

Step 3. Using my Zentangle patterns guide download, or any patterns of your own, add a different pattern to each separate area within each heart. There’s no right or wrong way to do this. I even had the children use words as part of their patterns. Have fun with creating the patterns. Anything is possible.Zentangle Art for Kids

Step 4. Finally, add a watercolor background. I liked the idea of having rainbow lines that were not perfectly straight. You could also just do a basic gradient background too. The children had fun trying all different kinds of watercolor backgrounds.

See how easy it is to create beautiful Zentangle art! This project is not only great for children, but it’s also great for adults too!

I would love to see your finished Zentangle art project. Come share a picture with me on Instagram or Facebook! I love showing examples of my tutorials being made!Easy Zentangle Art Lesson for Kids
